Iron County is a county located in the U.S. state of Utah. As of 2000 the population was 33,779 and by 2005 was estimated at 38,311. It was originally named Little Salt Lake Valley, and renamed for the iron mines west of Cedar City. Its county seat is Parowan and the largest city is Cedar City.

Parowan City - County Seat

As the first settlement of southern Utah (settled January, 13, 1851), Parowan is affectionately called the "Mother Town of Southern Utah. Many of the original homes and business buildings still line the downtown area of the community, along with a tree-lined Main Street that take visitors on a nostalgic trip back through time. Brianhead

Cedar City

Enoch

Kanarraville

Kanarraville is a town in Iron County, Utah located just south of Cedar City. The population was 311 at the time of the 2000 census.

Paragonah

Paragonah (pronounced locally as pair-a-GOON-ah) was settled by residents from the nearby town of Parowan in the early 1850s. Parowan residents found meadows next to Red Creek that provided ideal locations for farming. The settlement was first known as Red Creek, but the name was later changed to Paragoonah and then Paragonah. There are conflicting sources as to the name's precise meaning, but it is of Paiute Indian origin and apparently is a reference to the water found in the area. Paragonah was incorporated as a town in 1916 and is located just north of Parowan City.
